Are you passionate about storytelling, social issues, and the power of visual media? Do you wish to delve into the lives of diverse communities and bring untold stories to the screen? Are you eager to develop your skills in documentary filmmaking focused on environmental protection in Hong Kong?
This intensive program invites budding filmmakers to experience Hong Kong’s rich cultural tapestry and explore the pressing issue of environmental protection through documentaries.

Through hands-on workshops and mentorship from experienced documentary filmmakers, students will learn to create impactful documentaries that shed light on the environmental challenges faced by Hong Kong and its communities.

Course Highlights: 

● To understand the principles and ethics of documentary filmmaking.
● To gain technical skills in shooting, editing, and producing documentary films.
● To critically engage with environment protection issues in Hong Kong.
● To produce a short documentary film that can serve as an educational and advocacy tool.

Course Instructor

Jonathan Fang
Jonathan Fang is an Australian-born Chinese filmmaker who graduated with a bachelor's degree in film and media from Griffith University in Australia. He has been in the industry for over 10 years and has worked on numerous productions, including movies screened in cinemas funded by Screen Australia, as well as linked web series. He specialises in documentary filmmaking, and his career has taken him to various locations around the world, including remote communities in Papua New Guinea, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Outback Australia, as well as major cities like San Francisco and Montreal. Jonathan has received recognition for his work, including being the Director of Photography for the LinkedIn web series “SheStarts” Season 1, consisting of 28 episodes, and serving as the Camera Operator for the feature film “Power Meri”, which had a theatrical release and was funded by Screen Australia. He also won the Best Cinematography Award at the Oregon Documentary Film Festival for the series “Frontiers”, where he worked as the Director of Photography. Jonathan is passionate about telling impactful stories and raising awareness. He is eager to share his passion and skills with younger learners to inspire the continued creation of meaningful stories in the world.
