5-Day Multisector Career Perspectives (Ages 12-14 years)

Career Exploration

This dynamic course is designed to empower students aged 12-14 to explore diverse career paths. Each day, students will focus on a specific in-demand industry with the guidance of a vetted industry expert who will be sharing their experiences and insights.

– Entrepreneurship
– Science & Technology
– Fitness & Wellness
– Media & Communication
– Legal

Students will step into the roles of entrepreneur, scientist, wellness expert, media practitioner, and lawyer, learning what it takes to thrive in these careers through 5 engaging phases:

– Discovery: Get a taste of different careers by understanding sectors and responsibilities, misconceptions vs. reality, future and growth potential, and what a typical day looks like for someone in each industry.
– Core Competencies: Learn and build essential technical and soft skills as well as qualities needed to succeed in each industry.
– Experience: Put knowledge to the real-world test by engaging in hands-on activities and applying learnings to accomplish project deliverables.
– Pathways: Learn how to chart future career paths, from choosing the right course and university to actively seeking internships and upskilling opportunities.
– Reflect: Solidify learnings and develop a roadmap for success through guided reflection and post-program support.

Course Instructors

Billy Tam - Entrepreneurship
Billy Tam is an architect turned entrepreneur with over 10 years of experience in 5 idea-to-exit startups in fitness, retail, and food and beverage. He is currently the founder and CEO of Balloon, a children’s Mastercard debit card and app company dedicated to fostering financial literacy in the next generation. He is one of OWN Academy’s pioneer Industry Coaches and now the Director of Operations.
Shaik Abdullah Nawabjan - Science & Technology
Shaik Abdullah Nawabjan is a postdoctoral researcher at PhrmaSec Limited, a biotech company that focuses on clinical situations associated with hormonal dysregulation. He is a former research assistant and doctoral research fellow at The University of Hong Kong.
Tiara Hoquee & Aileen Wong - Fitness & Wellness
Tiara Hoquee and Aileen Wong are the co-founders of Mindfit, a mind and body coaching company that fuses fitness and self awareness to improve wellbeing. They are also part of Fluid X, a fitness company that creates aqua bag training equipment, where Aileen is the fitness director and master trainer, and Tiara is the director of content.
Leanne Lam - Media & Communication
Leanne Lam is the host of the podcast Beyond The Label, founder of the self-care brand Blu Journal, co-founder of event management company Le Lumière Events, and a certified mindset coach. She’s the former social media manager for Prestige HK and Lifestyle Asia HK, both publications under Burda Luxury.
Jessica Shing - Legal
Jessica Shing is a senior associate at global law firm Hogan Lovells, who specializes in corporate finance and capital markets (e.g., helping companies go public and list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange).
