About EYFS
About EYFS
In the United Kingdom, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework for children’s development from birth. Click here to learn more.
Themes
There are four themes within the EYFS curriculum, which we follow at our centre.
A Unique Child – Every child is a competent learner from birth and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships – Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and carers.
Enabling Environments – The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending a child’s development and learning.
Learning and Developing – Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. All areas of learning and development are equally important.
Areas of Learning & Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We provide children with experiences and support which will help them to develop a positive sense of themselves and of others, respect for others, social skills and an eager disposition to learn. This area is of particular importance in the Pre-K classes, as we intend to provide every child with a unique first experience of school in which they feel highly valued as an individual within the class.
Communication and Language
In order to enhance progress in every child’s command of language, children’s learning and competence in communicating, speaking and listening is constantly supported and extended through positive and sensitive interactions with highly skilled teachers in order to enhance progress in every child’s command of language.
Physical Development
The physical development of students is encouraged by providing them with opportunities for them to be active and interactive and to improve their skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. They are always supported in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices in relation to food.
Mathematical Development
We develop children’s understanding of maths in a broad range of real-life and play based contexts in which they can explore, enjoy, learn, practice and talk about their growing understanding.
Literacy Development
Children are encouraged to engage in a wide range of fun, multi-sensorial pre-reading, pre-writing and physical development activities, all of which will equip them with the skills needed to become confident readers and writers.Throughout Pre-K children’s learning and competence in beginning to read and write is constantly supported and extended through playful activities, which shift to more formal teaching of skills at the Kindergarten level.
Understanding the World
We help children to make sense of the world, through offering opportunities for them to use a range of tools safely; to encounter creatures, people, plants and objects in their natural environments; and to undertake practical experiments and work with a range of materials.
Expressive Arts and Design
Children’s creativity is encouraged by supporting their curiosity, exploration and play. For example, our pupils are provided with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings, through a variety of art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-play activities, design and technology.
