Overview
This engaging robotics course guides young learners through their first steps in coding and engineering. Starting with the screenless mTiny robot, students begin their journey using intuitive coding cards to learn basic programming concepts, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills. Through interactive storytelling and hands-on activities, they develop fundamental computational thinking abilities while building confidence in technology use. As students progress, they transition to the LEGO SPIKE Essential platform, where they explore block-based programming and basic robotics engineering. This natural progression from tangible to digital coding provides a strong foundation in STEM education.
By the end of this comprehensive course, students will master essential programming concepts and basic robotics principles. They will demonstrate the ability to create simple programmes, build and modify basic robotic structures, and use sensors effectively. Beyond technical skills, students develop crucial thinking abilities including logical reasoning, problem-solving, and creative solution-finding. The course emphasises collaborative learning, helping students build communication skills while working on group projects and challenges.
*Students must bring their own iPads or tablets to class with the app installed beforehand when attending the Spike portion of the course
