Meet Hong Kong’s 2022 Winter Olympians

5th Jan 2022
Meet Hong Kong’s 2022 Winter Olympians
Let's see who are the athletes representing Hong Kong in this year's Winter Olympics

When you think of Hong Kong’s climate, you rarely think about the city’s ability to compete in winter sports, especially on the world stage. However, these three athletes have stepped up to the challenge against some of the world’s greatest athletes. Read to learn more about the backstory of these athletes!

Audrey King - Skiing

Being in the Hong Kong ski team since she was 13 years old, Audrey was quick to become one of Hong Kong’s leading competitive skiers. With a family that runs one of the top ski facilities in Hong Kong, we can see how her story to the Olympics is more than just an individual effort. She is working to do her best in Beijing and hopes to inspire girls and women around the world to continue participating in sports

Adrian Yung - Skiing

Adrian had his first taste of the slopes when he was in his toddler years. He stayed in Hong Kong till he was 5 but then committed to skiing competitively when he moved to the UK. He started competing for Hong Kong once he reached his teenage years and has made huge strides (such as training in Slovenia) to make it to this year’s winter Olympics.

Sidney Chu - Speed Skating

Though considering himself a middle-distance skater, Sidney Chu will be Hong Kong’s solo speed skater for the Beijing Olympics. The 22-year-old describes the sport as “Nascar on Ice” which makes complete sense when you watch the race for the first time. Chu’s journey as a full time athlete has been difficult as essential bookings for rink time often clash with Hockey and Commercial Times. There has been a speed skater representing Hong Kong since 2002 and Sidney is proud to continue the legacy.
