1. Enhance Social Skills and Build Character
At summer camp, children from a whole diverse variety of backgrounds can all come together in one class and so this is a really great opportunity for students to truly enhance and develop their social skills as they will meet many new people in an unfamiliar setting.
Group work in camp teaches students to respect each other, listen to each other and learn empathy in order to accomplish tasks and goals. Solely focusing on their own needs will not reap anything so students have to come out of their shell and work as a team. New friendships are sure to develop!
2. Learn New Subjects
Students will be able to truly focus on an area or subject that they are genuinely interested in studying. Allowing students to follow their passion at a young age allows them to see what areas of learning appeal to them and will allow them to gain a better understanding of areas they wish to pursue in the future. Conversely, they can try a whole new subject and see if they like it or not! Without trying then you can't really know.
Alternatively, if a student undertakes a subject which are not too strong in then this extra focus during summer camp could be the time when they grasp the subject at hand and begin to excel and undertake new challenges. This in turn will help develop their self-esteem and their confidence will grow.
3. Learning Just Becomes Fun
Summer camp is set up to be a fun learning experience and not as rigid and structured as conventional school so here students may feel a weight off their shoulders and try new things and explore their creative nature. When activities are interactive and children can freely express themselves then learning will become fun and in turn, children will seek to learn instead of being forced to learn.
4. Structure Away from Distractions
The summer days can be long and drawn out for both parents and children so summer camp is the perfect way to create a proper structure and timetable.
Summer camp will enable children to get out of the house so they are not just sitting at home watching television and playing video games when they could be learning, making new friends and developing their character.
5. Independence
Away from the structure of their conventional schools and their set routines, students will realise that the world is a much wider place with many others who have the same subject interests as they do!
Without the same classroom rules as their conventional schools, students will be expected to do more and thus work on being more independent in all tasks. This greater sense of community can collectively motivate the students to excel in their subject even further.
The long hot days of July and August should be fun and memorable and for children all around the world, summer camp is the perfect blend of learning, fun and friendship!
